But I Know What I Like
24x30-ish inches on dry-erase board; 2007; class: Intermediate Painting
Assignment to create a painting based on the theme of "reversal"...a depiction of a contradiction, or something ironic, a piece of role-reversal, or something nonsensical.
What we have here is a depiction of a existing contradiction in the world, in the view of what constitutes great art. I've painted a cartoon, which is absolutely "low" art, but I've done it in acrylic as a wall painting, which is generally "high" art. The art in this art is abstract in nature and touted as great, but my own art is figurative in a definite scene. The rendering is flat, but there is an obvious depiction of space. And I'm an illustrator presenting this painting in the context of a class full of fine artists.
...I'm going to Modernist Hell, I know. B)
(Yes, that is Arrio in a cameo appearance, scarfing on cheese cubes. Thank Technetus.)
